Poker Winners Are Different - Alan N. Schoonmaker

Of the books that Dr. Al has written on poker psychology, this one is clearly my favorite.  What I really like about it is the fact that it isn’t so much about what you shouldn’t be doing, it’s about what you should be doing.  Dr Al has looked at some of the most successful poker players in the business, and compiled a list of habits that they all pretty much practice to achieve the level of success that they do.

The idea here of course is to compare the way winners approach the mental side of the game and the habits that they practice, and then look at what you are doing yourself in these areas, and make the necessary changes to get on a more winning track.  This book does indeed take you through this course, and presents the material in a format that all players can benefit from.

The topics are also arranged very well in addition to being very well thought out and comprehensive.  Iit all starts with the way we manage information, believes Shoonmaker, and this is no doubt true.  Then it’s a matter of how much control we are able to have in doing so, and  then finally, now decisively we act on all this.  So he takes us through the entire process, with excellent advice at every step of the way.

Even if you feel you have a very good handle on how you approach the game from the mental side, you will still benefit significantly from reading this book.
